There will be a plant swap at 11 a.m. All proceeds of the sale will go towards enhancing and expanding the arboretum.

]]> no@spam.com (PCWJ Online) http://www.pittcountync.gov/apps/news/article.asp?PageID=877&DeptID=26 <![CDATA[Summer Camp Volunteer Program]]> http://www.pittcountyarts.org/ The Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge, a non-profit 501-C3 organization, seeks ambitious and dedicated youth ages 15 and older (younger than 15 with special permission) to assist with summer camps for children.

Volunteers will help Emerge Staff with a variety of tasks, such as setup and cleanup during children's summer camps as well as serving as assistants to instructors. Participants will receive an official letter documenting hours and service for use if their school or civic organizations require volunteer hours. To participate, students must fill out an application and meet with Heather White the Director of Education and Outreach prior to their week of service.

]]> no@spam.com (PCWJ Online) http://www.pittcountyarts.org/ <![CDATA[Event to Benefit Family in Need of Surgery for Infant]]> http://www.babycoltfundraiser.eventbrite.com The Public Relations Student Society of America (ECU Chapter) will host an etiquette dinner at the East Carolina Heart Institute to help raise money for Baby Colt Moss and his family, Wednesday, April 18 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at The East Carolina Heart Institute.

Jillian Lundy, VP of Operations for ECU’s Chapter of PRSSA, states that Baby Colt is a young infant with a severe heart defect. To correct the functioning of his heart, he must undergo more multiple surgeries. Both of the parents are ECU alumni of the College of Business.
 
PRSSA is collaborating with Carol Woodruff of the ECU Career Center and WZMB, ECU’s Radio Station. PRSSA members and non-members are invited to come and learn about proper business dinner etiquette while simultaneously raising money for this cause. There is a minimum donation of $10 per plate.

Donations from those unable to attend the event are encouraged as well.

Pitt County Public Health presents the Twentieth Annual “Making Pitt’s Babies Fit” Maternity Fair, to be held Sunday, April 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Greenville Convention Center. 

The purpose of the event is to help improve the health of Pitt County babies through the publicizing of resources available to: expectant and new parents, individuals planning a pregnancy, and new grandparents. 

The event will feature a variety of health exhibits, items for purchase, a child safety seat clinic, and a maternity and children’s clothing fashion show. 

The general public is invited and admission is free. Exhibit space is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is free for non-profit/governmental organizations. For-profit businesses are required to submit a small exhibit fee. For more information or to reserve exhibit space, call 252.902.2424. 

The fair is part of National County Government Month events, celebrated each April by the nation’s counties to raise public awareness about the roles of county government. On March 20, guest speaker Loretta McGrath, a sustainability consultant and educator who practices holistic beekeeping, will speak at the Greenville Museum of Art. McGrath will discuss beekeeping, means of effecting positive social change, and sustainable agriculture. Immediately following, a panel discussion examines the global bee crisis and biodynamic beekeeping.
