    Going Red

    February has traditionally been the month of red – it is the month that we celebrate love with Valentine’s Day, but more importantly it is the month that we celebrate the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease in women. 
    If you listen to your insurance company, you may believe that the only reason a person would engage in psychotherapy is to address the symptoms of a mental illness; that is, to treat depression, anxiety, etc.  This is one very good reason to seek psychotherapy, but by no means the only good reason.
    The holidays are an exciting time of year filled with parties, family gatherings, and festivities.  While a time of merriment for most, it can also be a difficult time for people who have experienced the loss of family members, divorce or other life altering events.  Along with the hustle, bustle and excitement comes stress.
    Through many advances in science and medicine we now have treatments and even cures for many cancers that in the past would have been universally fatal.  Despite the advances in modern medicine we are still seeing alarming numbers of cancers in women.
