    A L.A.S.Ting love of Sea Turtles

    What began as a school field trip in 2005 to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Topsail Island has evolved into a passion and fun journey of discovery. I have learned that one person can make a difference and everybody should try. There have been so many kind and generous people who have helped me along the way.



    Pitt County Government is launching the Pitt County Flag Redesign Contest which starts February 1 and will run through March 12.
     
    Pitt County designers, young and old, are encouraged to participate in the contest, which will ultimately lead to the Pitt County Board of Commissioners adopting a new flag. Participants will have the opportunity to make their mark on Pitt County history by submitting a full-color flag design that uses the Pitt County seal and/or logo, and follows the contest’s other rules of entry.

    The Domestic Violence Awareness Walk and Vigil scheduled for Oct. 15 in Greenville is part of an overall effort to bring awareness to the problem and honor the memory of those who lost their lives during a domestic violence incident.


    The evening of November 6, 2009 will be a historic moment for women’s studies at East Carolina University as well as for women throughout Eastern North Carolina. That evening, Gloria Steinem will deliver a public lecture, “Reflections on Feminism: A Voyage of Discovery with Gloria Steinem,” beginning at 7 p.m., in Wright Auditorium.
