Gift certificates for continuing education classes are available through East Carolina University’s Office of Continuing Studies Lifelong Learning Program, the mission of which is, “To inspire, engage and serve the lifelong interests of individuals 50 and older in eastern North Carolina.”
This outreach initiative strives to provide participants with a chance to continue learning in a relaxed atmosphere, without entrance requirements, exams or grades.

Location depends on the course. For example, a belly dancing course may take place at a dance studio in Greenville, while a writing course might be held at Cypress Glen Retirement Community. Some courses are one session while others involve six or more class meetings.
While not required in order to take courses, becoming a member of the program includes a number of benefits such as reduced course rates, access to Joyner Library, and invitations to various events and activities. The Lifelong Learning Program has an annual membership fee of $35 with some individual classes or outings costing a small extra fee related to additional expenses, such as transportation. Examples of previous events include a Movie and Dinner as well as a Chicken Pickin,’ held in October 2011 (Along with the chicken meal, those who attended were treated to a piano concert by Dr. Charles Stevens and songs by the Brotherhood of Harmony group).
