I have lived in North Carolina for thirty years, originally from Dixfield, Maine. After college I followed my husband to Duke University where I was a cancer research technician. During this time I decided to pursue my interest in veterinary medicine by attending NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine. Twenty years ago I moved to Greenville to open my own practice--East Carolina Veterinary Service.
I treat a variety of patients: dogs, cats, horses, pocket pets and even the occasional bird. My job is the best, never boring. In addition, I love meeting clients with their pets, determining the cause of an illness and curing my patients. My areas of special interest are geriatrics and behavioral medicine. Veterinary medicine is a cradle to grave service, which is still exciting even after twenty years.
I enjoy working with the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina training dogs with high school volunteers. The sessions are run by Linda Monico from New Levels Dog Training. We use only positive reinforcement to teach dogs good manners. These dogs do better in their new homes and the students obtain enjoyable community service hours.
In the spring and fall, I team up with the Foundation for Shackleford Horses and the National Park Service to move wild horses from Shackleford Island to good homes on the mainland. We dart a select few horses to move them off the highly populated island. In the past three years, we have successfully placed nineteen horses.
I enjoy time with my family--my two teens, Peter and Ellen, and husband, Tim Clark. I have a Greyhound rescue dog (pictured with me) and three dieting cats. In my free time I love to travel, hike, ride horses, ski, swim, and read.
If you have any animal questions, wish to adopt a Shackleford horse or volunteer at the Humane Society go to my web site at www.ecvets.com and email or call me at 252-355-4945.
