All people lose hair, men, women, and children. It is normal to lose up to 50 hairs a day which usually is unnoticeable. We see this while brushing our hair, while shampooing, and the natural shedding that occurs throughout the day. This is nothing to be alarmed about. However, an overwhelming majority of women experience hair loss due to hormonal changes. Hormone levels change throughout pregnancy and can produce hair or hair loss. Stress and anxiety, although not scientifically proven is thought to result in alopecia areata or baldness in spots. Vitamin deficiencies and medications are also factors in hair loss. All of these conditions are reversible and temporary for most women. On the other hand, there are two conditions in which hair loss is irreversible, alopecia universalis and female pattern baldness. Alopecia unversalis is caused by a virus and there is no known “cure”. With this condition the body actually stops producing hair throughout the whole body. The second is what is known as female pattern baldness, which is caused by the testosterone hormone. The women do not have abnormal levels of the hormone however; their bodies cannot break down or dispose of the testosterone properly resulting in atrophy of the hair follicles leaving the hair being produced smaller, weaker in structure, and lighter in color. Women experiencing hair loss may feel devastated, helpless, and unattractive. You are not alone. As many as 30 million women experience hair loss. We at East Carolina Hair Clinic offer a variety of non surgical solutions for everyone that experiences all types of hair loss from full cap hair systems, better known as wigs, hair augmentation, and topical therapies.
Wigs are often a temporary solution and most of the time used for women who are undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. They provide full coverage of thinning areas, are guaranteed to work and can be removed at night.
Hair augmentation refers to the process of adding to a person’s existing hair rather than covering it up as a full cap system would. This solution only adds hair where needed and can offer a person a many advantages over other solutions. The system is semi-permanently attached, can vary in the degree and extent of coverage, can be worn for all activities including sleeping, exercising, and swimming, and can be shampooed and styled just as one’s natural hair.
We also specialize in hair loss prevention. We offer a line of in house and take home products that we use on the client along with treatment with our in house non-invasive low level light laser, which was featured on the Today Show in March 2010. These products used in conjunction together are all FDA approved and clinically proven to promote healthy hair growth with no side effects. We tailor the regimen to meet each client’s needs; whether it is aggressive treatment to re-grow hair fast or a maintenance program to maintain your healthy hair.
