We have officially kicked off Pitt County Operation Santa Claus 2009!
For those aren't familiar with Pitt County Operation Santa Claus, the group consists of members from GPD, GFR, GUC, NCHP, DSS and the Salvation Army. This year we are hoping to pick up a couple of other agencies. We collect toys for the children of Pitt County. The Salvation Army takes applications, sorts through those, determines who is eligible and maintains the master list. They watch to see who has been using their services and their goal is to reach new families each year. Last year 85% who received toys had not received toys from them in the past.
We have been and will continue this year to put collection boxes in the Pitt County Schools, city hall, Greenville Fire/Rescue, Greenville Police Department and other locations throughout the county. If you know of a business who would want to place a collection box in their location, please let me know. We will begin placing boxes November 16, 2009.
Saturday December 5, 2009
Greenville Mall Toy Drive. The hours will be 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. There will be activities throughout the day and guests will include Sparky the Firedog and McGruff!!! Last year we challenged the local high schools to compete to raise the most toys/donations. Different groups from each school participated, ranging from the Honor Society, French Club and the Athletic Departments. The winning school wins a "traveling trophy". The trophy will be placed at the winning school until the next year. North Pitt is the reigning winner....who will take the trophy this year?
This year we have a new and exciting event planned!
December 12, 2009
Street Hawks MC Toy Run and Fund Raiser. Registration will be 9-11:30, ride starts at 12 noon. Wal-Mart parking lot (near McDonalds). Food and drinks will be supplied for all who participate. (see the attached flyer).
We will also be challenging shoppers to "fill the tractor trailer" with toys and we plan to have police officers and firemen walking the parking lot to "fill the stocking" with donations. Handouts will be given out by the Salvation Army bell ringers explaining the activities of the day. There will be police cars and fire trucks for the kids and some other special guests......we may see Santa.....
